SARAH  MILLER

Morat Derech, Director of Spiritual and Lifelong Learning

Sarah has been working in the field of Jewish Education for over 15 years. She has experience in many Jewish educational settings, from day schools and congregations to summer camps and youth groups. She has a BA in Near Eastern Studies from Cornell University and a Master’s in Jewish Education from The Jewish Theological Seminary. Sarah is blessed with her wonderful son, Miles.  sarahmiller@kolemeth.org

 


MAYTAL  MILLER

Assistant Director of Educational Programming

Maytal's family joined Kol Emeth in 1990. She enjoyed being a leader in Jewish student life at UC Santa Cruz where she studied Linguistics and Hebrew. After graduating, Maytal moved to Israel and served in the IDF as a Lone Soldier. Maytal has a Master’s degree from Tel Aviv University in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She also completed CalStateTEACH, the California State University’s teacher preparation program. Maytal has a decade of experience teaching in Israel, California, and the Czech Republic. 


TYLER  DEAN

Music Specialist & Assistant Director of Educational Programming

Tyler grew up in the East Bay. He went to summer camp at Camp Newman, which has informed much of his philosophy around Jewish music and song leading. He started song leading in 2004 at Congregation Shir Ami in Castro Valley. Tyler started singing in choirs in 1999 and continued to do so for 17 years. He got his Ph.D. in Psychology from University of California, Irvine in 2015, doing his dissertation in music perception. Since then, he has been working as a Jewish educator, song leader, and cantorial soloist throughout the bay area. He started working at Kol Emeth as an educator and song leader in May of 2020. 


JEFF  SCHWARZ

Mitzvah Director and Teacher

Jeff has been working at Congregation Kol Emeth for forty years. In addition to serving as our Youth Director in the past, Jeff prepares our students for their B'nai Mitzvah. In fact, Jeff prepared his colleague, Maytal Miller, for her Bat Mitzvah twenty years ago. Jeff enjoys studying Torah and musar, birding, and cooking for Daven & Dine, a shul enterprise he started with member Flaurie Imberman five years ago. He very much appreciates being honored recently by the congregation at the Spring Celebration.  

 


        AVRIL  SOHN 

Teacher

Avril is a seasoned educator and has been teaching at Kol Emeth for the past 8 years. She grew up in South Africa and has lived in France, London, and Israel. Avril came to California for her husband’s graduate studies and hasn’t wanted to leave California since. She is passionate about instilling in her students a love of learning and pride in our Jewish heritage. Avril has three grown children and an adorable grandson.  She feels privileged to work with such a supportive team at Kol Emeth.


MONICA  RODRIGUEZ  KUNIYOSHI

Teacher - The Mensch Project 

Monica is passionate about learning, leadership and Mussar. She has enjoyed various roles at Kol Emeth, both as a lay leader and in the religious school. She has taught at Hausner and Beth Am, serves on the boards of Upstart and J Leaders, and graduated from the Wexner Heritage program (‘14). She has two wonderful daughters and lives with her husband in Palo Alto.
