The Torah of Reconciliation: Seeking Wisdom to Nurture Civil Discourse with Rabbi Shelly Lewis

We struggle mightily to find ways to listen and to speak civilly over issues that divide our society, our people, even our friends and family. In this course based on Rabbi Lewis’ book Torah of Reconciliation, we will search for practical wisdom deeply embedded in Jewish sacred texts on how to manage our conflicts with compassion and civility. The Rabbi’s book will be available for sale at the first session. The cost is $20.

Bio: Rabbi Shelly Lewis is Rabbi Emeritus of Kol Emeth, having served for 33 years! He is the author of Torah of Reconciliation which occupied him for 12 years. He is also the author of a series of four children’s books on a related theme of living with and celebrating difference, and most recently of: Letters Home: A Jewish Chaplain’s Vietnam Memoir.

Beginning Hebrew Reading Class with Jeff Schwarz

This is a continuation of last month's Hebrew Reading class where we learn all Hebrew letters and vowels.  Our goal will be reading sentences, and hopefully, singing simple prayers taken from the siddur.  The text is provided and will be Practice, Drill, and Review for Reading Hebrew by Lillian Adler.  Enjoy learning to read Ivrit (Hebrew) with your classmates in a supportive environment!

Practical Spiritual: A Journey to the Heart of Things with Rabbi David Booth

This six week course will be an exploration of theology, prayer, and views on the afterlife. The purpose will be to explore a practice that can support / reinforce / develop a faith experience. And similarly to develop a faith experience that can support a prayer and observance practice. It will also include a practical component in which people will be invited to compose prayer, poems, or other writings that can capture some personal reactions to the Divine and the challenges of one’s life.
