Help Make A Minyan

Need a Minyan? / Help Make a Minyan?

Please note: Our daily minyan has gone virtual! Zoom links are embedded in weekly emails to Kol Emeth members, and are also on the “This Virtual Week At KE” page of our members’ website.  If you are not a KE member, and you would like to participate, please email office@kolemeth.org to introduce yourself and request Zoom access.

Do you ever need to say Kaddish, but there aren’t enough people at virtual minyan, and you’d like to send one quick message out to see if someone can help?

Or perhaps you are not a minyan regular, but you might be willing to drop whatever you’re doing at 7:45pm one evening and hop online, if you received a message saying people are needed to make a minyan?

Do you have the messaging app WhatsApp on your smartphone (either Android or iPhone), or are you willing to get it? (It’s free.)

We’ve implemented an experimental program with the evening minyans, and it appears to be helping. Please consider joining in. It’s free, it’s easy, it has the potential to be a great help to people who are saying Kaddish, and only a tiny bit disruptive to your evening if you’re currently one of the fortunate people not saying Kaddish.

WhatsApp is a free messaging app that works on all smartphones. It was developed in Israel.

If you have joined the WhatsApp group, here’s what you can expect: At 7:45pm, Sunday through Thursday, you may get a WhatsApp message if we DON’T have enough for a minyan. If you can’t join, you just ignore the message. If you CAN join, you respond with “on my way, 1 person” or “2 people on our way”, etc. Once there are 10 people in the Zoom room, a message will go out, “We have a minyan.”

If you have joined the group, and you are at the virtual minyan: On nights when you are short a minyan, you can use WhatsApp to send out a request saying you need a minyan.

For more information, or to be added to the group, email the Kol Emeth office, and they will forward it to the volunteers who are managing the group.

If you are a member and logged in, you should see a section below that has the link to join the WhatsApp group.
