Thursday, January 7, 2021 23 Tevet 5781

7:00 PM - 8:00 PMZoom

Rabbi Barry Block and Rabbi Amy Eilberg will share teachings from a new compilation, The Mussar Torah Commentary, CCAR Press, 2020. Rabbi Block is the editor, and Rabbi Eilberg is among the diverse array of contributors. Join us as we explore Torah through a Mussar lens.

Rabbi Block’s book, The Mussar Torah Commentary, offers a meaningful analysis of all the 54 weekly parashot. This anthology through each essay juxtaposes a parashah with one of the Mussar middot (Mussar being the Jewish school of ethics’ description of character traits), thus providing Mussar teachings that allow us to further examine our traditions with elevated intentions and mindfulness.

Rabbi Barry H. Block who is a Houston native and an Amherst College graduate, has served Congregation B'nai Israel in Little Rock, Arkansas, since 2013. In 1991, after studying at its Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and New York campuses, he was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Rabbi Amy Eilberg serves as a spiritual director, kindness coach, and peace and justice educator. Her book, From Enemy to Friend: Jewish Wisdom and the Pursuit of Peace, was published by Orbis Books in March 2014. She is a proud mother and exuberant savta to two baby boys.
