West Coast Musical Premier - “Jacob Wrestling the Angel”
In Loving Memory of Mel Krauss and Irene Krauss-de-Groot
Friday, February 24th and Sunday, February 26th
“Hope. Fear. Regret. Betrayal. Despair. The unknown. These are the emotional forces and threads that weave through the story of Jacob Wrestling the Angel and through the three movement composition. It is an anxiety driven story that parallels the unknown of our times, the wrestling so many are engaged in as we search for meaning, sense, order. The brutal side of ourselves, driven by concern for our own well-being, wrestling with the side of ourselves aspiring towards generosity and hope. We seek a transformation like that of Jacob's whether we realize it or not.”
These are the words Pulitzer nominated composer Fredrick Kaufman used to describe this incredible work.
Kol Emeth is proud to host a weekend of music and inspiration with the West Coast Premier of Fredrick Kaufman’s “Jacob Wrestling the Angel.”
Featuring renowned musicians Robert Davidovici on violin, German Marcano on cello, and Victoria “Tori” Hauk on flute.
Join us for two events:

PROVIDING AIR PURIFIERS FOR OUR NEIGHBORS:
Partnering with Climate Resilient Communities (CRC), we are promoting a campaign to raise $20,000 to purchase 125 air purifiers for neighbors in East Palo Alto and other neighborhoods where air quality continues to be unhealthy. Each device costs $150. Contributions in any amount are warmly welcomed. Donations can be made here. The good news is that we already met our previous goal of $15,000, so CRC has upped the ante. We believe we can succeed in partnership with Beth Am and Spark Congregation.
EDUCATIONAL EVENTS:
Acknowledging that each of us needs to grow in learning in order to become motivated and then to choose our actions wisely, we have sponsored a series of meetings with wise teachers. We met with Rev. Danielle Parish who had just returned from the world climate meeting in Scotland, Dr. Chris Jones and our own Phil Metz to be introduced to consumption based emissions. We promise more to come.
